The chief attraction in Mount Barker is the old Police Station Museum, built in 1867-68 by a convict road party. The area around Mount Barker supports numerous vineyards. To the east of Mount Barker is the very unusual Porongurup National Park though its attractions pale in comparison with the Stirling Ranges to the north.
