Description of Bondi Beach: Bondi Beach is Sydney's most famous stretch of sand. Located just south of the heads, Bondi Beach is only 7 km from the city centre. The usual name, 'Bondi', comes from an Aboriginal word thought to mean 'sound of waves breaking on the beach'. By the late 19th century Bondi was a popular seaside destination and by the 1930s millions of people were flocking to Bondi Beach each summer. Today Bondi Beach, with its two surf clubs (North Bondi and Bondi), its numerous beachside cafes and its summery feel is an ideal holiday destination.
